Terms of both offices last one year, but incumbents are eligible for re-election if their terms as trustees
continue.

Continuing Trustees: Cheryl Wegner (original term expiring in 2024) will begin a new term due to a
bylaws change in March 2023 allowing consecutive board terms; and will serve the completion of Chaka
Holley’s term ending in 2026.

Marc Saphir, who served as Alternate on the 2023-2024 board, is nominated for a full 3-year term.

Ezrina Bradley and Linn Orear will continue in terms expiring in 2025.

Rosie Medley will continue in a term expiring in 2026.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES 2023-2024 ANNUAL REPORT

MISSION: The Board has the care, custody and control of the real and personal property of the
Society and establishes policies for the conduct and affairs of the Society.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Cheryl Wegner, Vice Chair. Richard Pardo, Rosie Medley. Linn Orear,
Ezrina Bradley, Chaka Holley and Marc Saphir (alternate). Marc Saphir took the role as a full
Trustee with the resignation of Chaka Holley.

The congregation mourned the loss of several of its dearest members throughout the year,
including Finley Campbell, Richard Snow and Kedda May Williams. We supported the loved
ones of all losses with the sympathy, care and love by way of our endless support.

The Board of Trustees started the church year with a retreat to welcome Senior Minister, Rev.
David Messner. The essential work for the year included:

o Creating an environment where the Senior Minister can engage the congregation
through a shared ministry approach with the support of the Board.
o Outreach efforts to increase First U’s visibility and traffic.
o Proper alignment for third party space usage.
o Consideration for the financial health of First U.
o Processes required for leveraging Breeze (church management platform) for the
purpose of maintaining the records of church visitors and members. Additionally,
formalizing this process will contribute to the growth of membership.
The key highlight of the church year was the Annual Pledge Campaign. An annual pledge goal
of $300K was set by the Finance Committee and agreed upon by the Board. The Annual Pledge
Campaign Chair, Kristin Faust, recruited a committee which consisted of: Linn Orear, Leslie
Davis, Jan Holt, David Puszkiewicz, and Marc Saphir with Reverend Messner and Amos Biggers
in support. The committee planned a couple events and met weekly to discuss strategy and

progress. Due to the generosity of the congregation, we are approximately 95% at goal and
expected to be at 100% by the end of year.

The key challenge in the upcoming year will involve the impact on unforeseen property issues
which remains a consistent possibility. To alleviate this possibility, the Property Committee is
currently investigating a service maintenance approach to key elements of the building’s
infrastructure.
